Walking for Change

The MS Walk in Seattle happens in the fourth week of April, and it is a community event to raise money for MS research. In 2022, a couple of friends joined me in this event, the first event such as this that I’ve actively participated in. Oh what fun it was!

Why do I walk? We need more research and medicines to stop the damage to our central nervous system–a cure for MS. In fact, more research and medical progress have occurred in the past five years for MS than in the last 70 years. New disease modifying treatments, DMT, have come onto the market improving the trajectory of this disease for many people with MS.

This event brings color, noise, and excitement to Gasworks Park. Individuals from all walks of life attend to do either the 1.5 mile or the 3 mile walk. The participants wear orange, chartreuse green, wild leis, and hats. Rain or shine, the enthusiasm supporting the event is evident. Tents from the teams, local hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies share literature, give aways, and treats. The local chapter of the National MS society hosts this event and has staffers there to cheer everyone on. This is an awesome event where people can see what is possible rather than focus on the limitations of the disease.
