Saturday, May 13, 2023 was the MS Walk in Wenatchee, WA. What a glorious day it was! The sun was shining brightly, and the sky was blue. The walk took place in an absolutely gorgeous park, Walla Walla State Park.
The Wenatchee walk is a relaxed and low-key event. It is more conversational, and walkers can take in the river, sculptures, and plantings in the park. To convene with nature is the goal there!
With each new experience, I have with my fellow MSers is that each walk or event is different. I met the leader of the pack, Candi Johnson. Her team is Lesion Busters! Candi walks for her husband, Mike. We applaud her for her dedication and understand her frustration in getting others to walk to support MS research.
Why do I walk? MS is bigger than us all. Research has come a long way in finding new disease-modifying treatments. Walkers all have their stories from which we can learn. Walking for a cause, any cause, and donating to the cause allows each person to be part of something outside of himself or herself and to contribute to a cause bigger than oneself. Thus, I walk, and I donate. Furthermore, my treatment and care is built on those who have walked before me. I get that!
