90 degrees in Seattle

Today, the temperatures in Seattle hit 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat slows me down as the nerves do not make the needed connections for my body to function. Those synapses refuse to snap! I am perfectly fine to tell others, “Hey, I am a little slow and clumsy today.” It took me a while to articulate this condition because most people in the Pacific Northwest yearn for heat and sunshine.

The wonderful byproduct of having MS is that one learns to say what is on her mind. After all, these symptoms are out of my control, so I try to name them and claim them so that those around me understand that I might be struggling to get my body to function as I need it to. It is also a way to educate others about MS and why movement can become awkward at times.

I love the sunshine and the happy moods it brings. However, I cope by heading out in the early morning hours and staying out of the direct sun later in the day.
